Some 960 cubic meters of ash relocated from settlement of Klyuchi after volcanic eruption

MOSCOW, April 13. /TASS/. About 960 cubic meters of volcanic ash have been taken out from the settlement of Klyuchi (Kamchatka Region) after the eruption of the Shiveluch volcano, the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations department said on its Telegram channel.
A convoy of the Ministry’s Kamchatka Rescue Center arrived in the Ust-Kamchastsky Disrict to assist the local administration in relocation of volcanic ash from territories of socially important facilities. Prior to that, transportation of ash was carried out by contractor organizations.
"By now, 960 cubic meters of ash have been transported from the settlement," the department said.
The department added that elimination of the aftermath continues in settlements, affected by the ash emission, caused by the eruption: water is being supplied to the people, single-use medical masks are being issued; during the day, regional firefighters washed ash form the local hospital building and cleared the hospital territory.
The volcano started erupting at 00:54 [local time] on April 11. Maximum eruption phases were registered at 05:44m, 06:46 and 07:14. According to satellite data, by 08:30, the height of the ash cloud reached 20km above sea level, with cloud length between 250 and 400 km. The volcano emitted ash four times on Wednesday and one time on Thursday.
Shiveluch is one of Kamchatka’s largest volcanos. It includes three main structures: the Old Shiveluch volcano, an ancient caldera and the active Young Shiveluch volcano. The volcano is located 50 km away from the settlement of Klyuchi and 450 km away from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
