According to Wang Wenbin, FBI’s numbers represent just "the tip of an iceberg of systemic racism and human rights problems in the US"

BEIJING, March 16. /TASS/. Washington doesn’t care much about human rights in the US, but expresses concern about human rights in other countries, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a news conference on Thursday.

He was commenting on an FBI’s recent report on US hate crimes committed in 2021.

"The US is looking through a telescope at its own human rights issues, but it is using a magnifying glass to find fault with the human rights situation in other countries," Wang Wenbin said. Washington "shamelessly plays with double standards in the field of human rights," he went on to say.

According to the spokesman, FBI’s numbers represent just "the tip of an iceberg of systemic racism and human rights problems in the US."

"In fact, in the US, where it is said that everyone is equal from birth, white supremacy and xenophobia are widespread today. It includes systemic racism against Native American peoples, and the Americans of African, Asian, Hispanic descent, Muslims and other population groups," he said.

The FBI earlier published data showing the number of crimes in the United States, which were motivated by the offender’s bias against a particular social group, increased by 11.6% year-on-year in 2021. The report documented more than 9,000 such incidents, the most since the FBI began tracking the data in 1990.
