They are accused of conducting anti-constitutional activities

VILNIUS, March 10. /TASS/. Estonian police have detained the leader of the country’s group called Koos, or Together, who earlier traveled to Donetsk and two other people, including a Russian national, on charges of anti-constitutional activities, the Postimees newspaper reported on Friday.

"The security police have detained three men on suspicion of establishing relations against the Republic of Estonia. This is an initial suspicion, which may change or be specified in the course of the proceedings. Among those detained are two Estonian citizens and one Russian citizen with an Estonian residence permit. One of the detainees is Aivo Peterson. Since the preliminary procedural steps regarding all three are still ongoing, it is not possible to answer more detailed questions about the investigation at this time. The criminal proceedings are being conducted by the Security Police and led by the Office of the Prosecutor General," a spokesman for the Estonian internal security service said.

The two other detainees haven’t been identified. If they are found guilty of acting against Estonian interests, they could face up to six years in jail.

Peterson traveled to Donetsk in February 2023. He explained the visit by wishing to put together an unbiased picture of what’s going down in Donbass. He then took part in a Russian television show hosted by Vladimir Solovyov. He was detained for a few hours as he crossed the border from Russia into Estonia on March 6.
