German police say the group "has connections to Russia" but also state "there’s no evidence of state actors" behind the group
BERLIN, March 6. /TASS/. German law enforcement agencies have uncovered the identities of some members of an international hacking group, saying they include the nationals of Germany, Russia, Moldova and Ukraine, the German newspaper Die Welt reported on Monday.
The investigation of the group named Double-Spider was conducted jointly with Europol and the US Federal Bureau of Investigations. According to police in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the hackers are responsible for a series of cyberattacks across the globe, including breaking into the servers of University Hospital in Duesseldorf and the Funke media group.
Prosecutors issued warrants for the arrest of three hackers, and investigation continues against eight more members of the group. Their whereabouts is unknown. One of the suspects, a 41-year-old Russian, is also wanted by the FBI. US law enforcement agencies have offered a reward of $5 million for information about him.
