Over 20% of Germans ready to flee country in case of war — opinion poll
According to the poll, only one in ten of those surveyed said he or she is ready to defend the country in case of aggression against it
BERLIN, February 13. /TASS/. More than 20% of Germans are ready to flee the country in case of war, according to the results of a DPA-contracted opinion poll conducted by the YouGov company among 2,000 adult Germans, which was released by the Berliner Zeitung newspaper on Monday.
According to the poll, only one in ten of those surveyed said he or she is ready to defend the country in case of aggression against it. Only five percent said they would do it voluntarily and six percent - upon conscription and training. Twenty-four percent of respondents said they would flee the country as soon as possible.
The newspaper notes that every fourth German between the ages of 18 to 39, or more than six million citizens, would leave the country because most young people in the country cannot conceive of war, seeing it as a blatant relic of the past.
