Andrei Sakharov Foundation interfered in Russian elections last year, says lawmaker

MOSCOW, January 24. /TASS/. The Andrei Sakharov Foundation (recognized in Russia as a foreign agent) meddled in the September elections in Russia last year, Chairman of the Duma Commission on Investigation into Foreign Interference in Russia's Internal Affairs Vasily Piskarev told reporters.
"The Andrei Sakharov Foundation is one of the numerous foreign NGOs operating on our country’s soil in violation of Russian legislation by spreading patently false information about Russia’s Armed Forces. Additionally, this American NGO came onto the commission’s radar by interfering in the electoral process during the fall campaign last year in Russia," he said.
According to him, the commission documented facts of the organization spreading "pseudo-expert assessments and forecasts and attempting to influence the results of the upcoming elections in violation of electoral legislation." "This is why we support the decision by the office of the Prosecutor General. As of today, this is already the 73rd foreign organization recognized as unwelcome. The State Duma commission will continue to monitor the activity of foreign foundations and NGOs involved in subversive activities against our country," he added.
