Budapest demands Ukraine end atrocities against ethnic Hungarians

BUDAPEST, January 19. /TASS/. Budapest has demanded that Ukrainian authorities put an end to atrocities against ethnic Hungarians in the Zakarpatye Region, the Hungarian Foreign Ministry’s State Secretary Tamas Menczer said on Thursday.
"We condemn what happened,"he said. "We call on local officials to immediately end atrocities against Hungarians,"the state secretary wrote on Facebook (banned in Russia as it is owned by Meta Corporation designated as extremist by the Russian authorities).
According to media reports, Hungarian flags and inscriptions in Hungarian were removed in the city of Mukachevo in Ukraine’s Zakarpatye Region in recent days. In addition, the labor contract of the Mukachevo Hungarian school’s principal was terminated. Earlier, the local authorities dismantled the sculpture of Turul, a mythological bird considered to be one of the symbols of the Hungarian nation.
