Dead dolphin found in Sevastopol did not belong to local dolphinarium, trainer says
On November 2, dolphins that belonged to a local dolphinarium were released into the sea from a Sevastopol beach
SEVASTOPOL, November 15. /TASS/. A dead dolphin who was found at a beach in the Crimean city of Sevastopol on Monday is not one of the marine mammals who were released into the sea earlier in the month, the Institute of Southern Sea Biology said in a statement, citing dolphin trainer Darya Tsvetkova.
According to earlier reports, a dead dolphin was found at a beach in Sevastopol late on Monday. From a photo, the trainer identified it as a dolphin named Zoya but after seeing the body, she said that it was another dolphin.
On November 2, dolphins that belonged to a local dolphinarium were released into the sea from a Sevastopol beach. According to Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev, the four dolphins lived in captivity for over ten years. The Russian Interior Ministry’s Sevastopol department opened an animal abuse case. The dolphinarium’s owner defended his actions, saying that it was difficult for him to keep the dolphins because of a decline in business. Experts continue searching for them.
