Russian national arrested in Moscow on charges of high treason

MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. Moscow’s Lefortovo District Court arrested a Russian citizen on charges of high treason, a source with the judiciary told TASS on Tuesday.
"Based on the November 7 decree by Moscow’s Lefortovo court concerning G. K. Verdiyan, suspected of committing a crime under Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code ("High treason" - TASS), detention was selected as a restrictive measure," the source said.
These charges stipulate prison terms anywhere from 12 to 20 years. According to Russian law, high treason involves espionage, revealing state secrets to a foreign government or an international or foreign organization as well as providing any aid to another country in activities directed against Russia’s security.
