Russia to seek condemnation of demolition of monuments to Soviet heroes — diplomat
It is noted that it is a shame to watch the Baltic leaders continue to ‘fight’ in a fit of Russophobic rage with monuments to the Soviet heroes who saved Europe and the entire world from the horrors of Nazism
GENEVA, August 24./TASS/. Russia will seek at international venues condemnation of the demolition in the Baltic states of monuments to the soldiers of the Red Army, who saved Europe and the world from the horrors of Nazism, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva Gennady Gatilov said on Wednesday.
"It’s a shame to watch the Baltic leaders continue to ‘fight’ in a fit of Russophobic rage with monuments to the Soviet heroes who saved Europe and the entire world from the horrors of Nazism," Gatilov wrote on Twitter. "The leadership of these countries has absolutely no sense of respect for the fighters of the multinational Red Army (in which Latvians, Lithuanians and Estonians also served) and historical memory - it easily shifts in favor of current political interests," he stressed.
Meanwhile, "European and UN bodies, including those dealing with human rights, the very existence of which became possible due to the Victory of the USSR and the Allies in World War II, prefer to remain silent and turn a blind eye to the barbarities committed in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. We will seek condemnations of such actions at the relevant Geneva venues," the envoy pledged.
