Nuremberg Trials to be foundation for tribunal in Donetsk – lawmaker

The commissions that operated in the USSR by Stalin's decree were taken as the basis, said Elena Shishkina, chairman of the committee on criminal and administrative legislation of the People's Council of the DPR

DONETSK, June 19. /TASS/. The Nuremberg Trials are taken as the basis in preparation for the international tribunal to be held in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), chairwoman of the committee on criminal and administrative legislation of the DPR People’s Council Elena Shishkina told TASS.

"The Great Patriotic War and the Nuremberg Trials as the conclusion are certainly the prime example for us. Commissions acting in the USSR under the Stalin’s decree were fundamentally taken as the basis for the commission of recording crimes and the commission for estimation of economic damages. Their documents formed the basis of the Nuremberg Trials. It is very good for us because nobody evaded punishment even after 75 years; criminals were found and sentences were executed to the utmost," she said.

The experience of other states, including Rwanda, was also studied, she noted. "We already staged two people’s tribunals in spring 2018, where sentences were pronounced in respect of leaders of Ukrainian - presidents and their accomplices, where their crimes were registered," Shishkina added.
