Dan Turturica stressed that Romania would reject participation in the Eurovision Song Contest

BUCHAREST, June 9. /TASS/. Romania will file a suit against the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and reject participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, President-Director General of the country’s public television station TVR Dan Turturica said at a meeting of the culture commission of the Chamber of Deputies (lower house), where he had been summoned due to the incident at the latest contest, at which the result of the Romanian jury voting was changed.

"For me all this story is clear: we are filing a suit against the European Broadcasting Union and leaving Eurovision," he was quoted as saying by Radio Romania.

That said, Turturica noted that "it should be done very attentively and wisely <...> to indeed get a reparation without fraying relations with the EBU," adding that the European Broadcasting Union helped TVR in certain situations.

The organizers of the 66th Eurovision contest that took place in Italy’s Turin, annulled the results of national juries of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Poland, Romania, San Marino and Montenegro. As a result, the points that members of the Romanian jury gave to Moldova passed to Ukraine.

Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra won the contest with its song Stefania this year. The second place went to the UK, while Spain was third. Romania took the 18th spot.
