Research center does not see preconditions for monkeypox virus with greater contagiousness
The monkeypox virus is generally notable for high stability, the Center said
MOSCOW, June 7. /TASS/. Preconditions for evolution of a more contagious monkeypox virus variant are not seen at present, the Russian state research center of virology and biotechnology Vector told TASS on Tuesday.
"The monkeypox virus is generally notable for high stability. Preconditions for development of a more contagious virus variant are not seen for the time being," the Center said.
"While monkeypox has low transmissibility, changes in epidemiology of this virus have occurred recently, manifested in particular in expansion of the area where the diseases surfaces. Cases of virus transmission from an individual to another individual are being registered, presumably with sexual transmission," Vector said.
Press service of the Russian Federal Service for Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare reported on June 1 that no monkeypox cases were registered in Russia. The authority is taking required measures to prevent infection import and its spread in the country.
