Russia continues to fulfill its obligations, ship food to countries in need — statement

MOSCOW, May 20. /TASS/. Russia continue to fulfill its obligations under trade contracts and ships food aid to developing states even in current circumstances, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in its statement on the UN Security Council meeting on famine and armed conflicts Friday.
"Even in the current circumstances, Russia continues to fulfill its obligations on existing commercial contracts and ships food aid to the population of developing countries in need. Since February 24 this year, over 6,000 tonnes of Russian food was shipped to Lebanon, Tajikistan, Sudan and Cuba through the World Food Program. A total of 20,000 tonnes of grain was sent to Sudan and Cuba via bilateral channels," the Ministry noted.
According to the Foreign Ministry, "as the UN Security Council meeting indicates, realization of what is happening seems to gradually come. Sensible assessments of the situation were made during speeches of invited experts and Council members: it was not the Ukrainian events that launched the food crisis; sanctions (including their secondary effect) harm the state of agricultural markets; it is necessary to pay utmost attention to aiding developing countries in reinforcement of their agricultural sector and overcoming consequences of food inflation," the Ministry said.
The Russian side provided arguments to deflect groundless attacks, the Ministry underscored.
"In his address, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya once again pointed out systemic failures in global economy, which led to the current situation on the global food market long before the special military operation. He pointed out the unhinged, almost maniacal sanctions policy of the West. He informed in detail about Russia’s export potential for grain and fertilizers, and effectively spelled it out who is really guilty of blockade of the port of Odessa, mined by Ukraine, as well as a significant portion of the Black Sea," the Ministry said.
