Moscow city lawmakers seek to name US embassy area in honor of Donbass defenders
The capital's cultural heritage department will soon discuss the lawmakers' initiative, the Moscow Duma’s press service informed
MOSCOW, May 18. /TASS/. A group of Moscow legislators has suggested naming the territory near the US embassy "Donbass Defenders Dquare," the Moscow City Duma said on its Telegram channel on Wednesday.
Lawmakers from the Moscow city legislature have forwarded their initiative "to designate the nameless territory in [Moscow's] Presnensky district in honor of the heroes fighting against Nazism in our days" to the capital's government and also suggested changing the US embassy's address to "Donbass Defenders Square."
Stepan Orlov, deputy chairman of the Moscow City Duma, said Muscovites and local public organizations have repeatedly asked the authorities to commemorate the Donbass defenders.
The Moscow Duma’s press service said the capital's cultural heritage department will soon discuss the lawmakers' initiative, adding that a number of unfriendly countries, including Lithuania, Latvia and the Czech Republic had already "renamed streets where Russian embassies are located after Ukraine and Ukrainian heroes".
