Cannes Film Festival back in full after pandemic-shadowed years
Twenty-one films were selected for the main competition
PARIS, May 17. /TASS/. The 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival opened on Tuesday on time for the first time in the past two years, when it had to be postponed amid the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and 2021. This time it opens in May as is the tradition. The opening ceremony was broadcast online by the France 2 TV channel.
Twenty-one films were selected for the main competition. On Wednesday, Tchaikovsky’s Wife by Russian film director Kirill Serebrennikov will see its international premiere at the festival.
"Final Cut", a zombie comedy by French director Michel Hazanavicius, opens the film festival on Tuesday.
On the occasion of the festival’s 75th anniversary, Swiss jeweler Chopard redesigned the Palme d’Or, which will feature diamond-studded leaves on the rose quartz base. The name of the winner will be engraved on the day when the festival ends, May 28.
