Venezuelan president says will revaccinate with Sputnik Light soon

BUENOS AIRES, April 22. /TASS/. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said he would revaccinate with Russia’s Sputnik Light anti-coronavirus vaccine in the coming days.

"I will receive a booster dose on Saturday," he said in a speech, broadcast by Venezolana de Television. "I will be inoculated with Sputnik Light. Luckily, we have a sufficient stock of vaccines, allowing to administer booster doses to all Venezuelan residents this year and the next one."

The president received his first Sputnik V shot in March 2021.

In late February, Maduro said the Venezuelan authorities had surpassed the adult vaccination target, with the country’s population being "fully vaccinated." Booster vaccination began in the country in early January.

About 522,000 novel coronavirus cases have been registered in Venezuela since the start of the pandemic, about 5,700 patients have died.
