25 civilians wounded in DPR in 24 hours due to Ukrainian shelling — People’s Militia

DONETSK, April 18. /TASS/. 25 civilians of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) have been wounded over the past 24 hours during shelling by the Ukrainian armed forces, DPR People's Militia deputy head Eduard Basurin reported on Monday.

"14 settlements of the republic came under shelling. As a result of Ukrainian aggression, 25 civilians, including one child, were wounded," the DPR People's Militia Telegram channel quoted Basurin as saying.

He added that in just one day Ukrainian army fired 227 rounds of ammunition from Grad multiple rocket launchers, 152mm and 122mm artillery, mortars and infantry fighting vehicle weapons into the territory of the republic. According to him, 14 residential buildings and two civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged.

The situation on the line of contact in Donbass escalated on February 17. The DPR and LPR reported the most intense shelling from Ukraine in recent months. On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his recognition of the DPR and LPR’s sovereignty. Russia recognized the republics within the borders that have been established by their constitutions (the administrative borders of Donetsk and Lugansk regions at the beginning of 2014).

Vladimir Putin on February 24, in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics, made a decision to conduct a special military operation. The DPR and LPR began an operation to liberate their territories, which were under Kiev's control.
