FSB nabs IS adherent who plotted terrorist attack on Federal Penitentiary Service
It is reported that the detainee is a 25-year-old native of Norilsk, a citizen of the Russian Federation
MOSCOW, March 23. /TASS/. The Russian Federal Security Service and the Investigative Committee detained a supporter of the international terrorist organization Islamic State (outlawed in Russia), who was planning to carry out an explosive device attack at one of the facilities of the Federal Penitentiary Service in the Krasnoyarsk Region, the Center for Public Relations of the Russian Federal Security Service told TASS on Wednesday.
"The Federal Security Service (FSB), jointly with the Russian Investigative Committee (SKR), prevented the activities of a supporter of the Islamic State (IS) international terrorist organization (outlawed in Russia), who posted in his Telegram channel public calls to commit terrorist acts," the FSB noted, "According to the detainee's testimony, he planned to commit a terrorist act using a homemade explosive device at one of the facilities of the Krasnoyarsk Region Federal Penitentiary Service," the FSB reported.
According to the SKR’s press service, the detainee is a 25-year-old native of Norilsk, a citizen of the Russian Federation. He was detained on March 22 in Norilsk. "Investigative bodies of the SKR Investigation Department for the Krasnoyarsk Region and the Republic of Khakassia initiated a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code (public calls for terrorist activities)," the SKR’s press service added.
According to the FSB, two improvised explosive devices of high power, a flag with IS symbols, as well as handwritten text with an oath of allegiance to the so-called Amir of the terrorist organization were discovered and confiscated at the detainee’s place of residence. "As part of the criminal investigation, the suspect's actions in preparation for a terrorist act and the illegal manufacture of explosive devices will also be assessed," the FSB reported. The Investigative Committee specified that on February 23 and 24 in the territory of the Kayerkan district of Norilsk, the suspect posted in his Telgram’s channel his own photo on the background of the IS flag, as well as video messages containing calls for terrorist activities and justification of terrorism. "In the near future, he will be charged and a preventive measure in the form of detention will be chosen," the SKR added.
