IAEA does not see critical safety violations at Chernobyl NPP

Ukraine has informed IAEA of power loss at Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant

TASS, March 10. IAEA does not see critical violations of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) safety, the organization tweeted.

"Ukraine has informed IAEA of power loss at Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant," IAEA said. "Development violates key safety pillar on ensuring uninterrupted power supply; in this case IAEA sees no critical impact on safety," it added.

The Ukrainian regulator earlier informed IAEA about the alleged power supply disconnection at the Chernobyl NPP.

"IAEA says heat load of spent fuel storage pool and volume of cooling water at Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant sufficient for effective heat removal without need for electrical supply," the organization added.

Russian military earlier established control over Chernobyl and Zaporozhye nuclear power plants. The situation at the Chernobyl NPP is controlled now jointly by Russian military and Ukrainian specialists and national guard, official spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said earlier.
