According to the Sanya Daily, the dynamic development of transport networks has led to the creation of routes suitable for romantic tours, "red tourism" (visiting places of revolutionary fame - note TASS), surfing, and even ethnic tourism. There are also mixed options, when after visiting the beach people go to the mountains and then stop by duty-free stores, staying overnight in hotels or in tents under the open sky.

In addition, the tourists can make an absolutely safe "tour to nowhere": take a car in any direction, occasionally checking a map and a navigator. According to the article, such a trip will leave a lot of unforgettable impressions, because this way people get to discover Hainan’s multi-faceted nature step by step, which is sometimes hard to do through a window of a tourist bus or a high-speed train.

According to China's leading online travel agency Ctrip, the resort city of Sanya on the southern coast of the province along with its administrative center Haikou are among the top three most popular destinations in the country for individual car travel.
