Russian winters are likely to move towards European climate in 30 years — expert
The temperature is likely to rise by 3-5 degrees
MOSCOW, July 14. / TASS /. Russian winters are going to be warmer by 3-5 degrees in 30 years due to global warming, getting closer to the European climate, Scientific Leader of the Russian Hydrometeorological Research Center Roman Vilfand told TASS on Wednesday.
"Our country is northern, and the energy problem becomes rather acute during severe winters. We can expect that in 30 years, this problem will be removed.
<...> The temperature is likely to rise by 3-5 degrees, so we will move towards Western European winters," the Russian expert said.
However, Vilfand noted that despite climate change, the frosts would still remain, but they were likely to become quite rare. "In general, winters will be warmer, but the intensity of cold snaps will not decrease, and one should not expect that [the temperature] in Moscow will not fall to -20 to -25 °C (-4 to -13 °F) <...> If a cold snap occurs, it will be severe. That is, seldom but strong," the meteorologist explained.
