The coronavirus spread rate shows the number of people one patient can infect before being isolated

MOSCOW, July 14. /TASS/. Russia’s coronavirus spread rate fell to 0.99 in the past 24 hours, registering the lowest level since June 6, according to TASS estimates based on the anti-coronavirus crisis center’s latest data released on Wednesday.

The coronavirus spread rate is below one only in one out of ten Russian regions with the largest number of COVID-19 cases: this rate equals 0.82 in Moscow, the latest estimates show.

The coronavirus spread rate stands at one in the Moscow Region, 1.02 in St. Petersburg, 1.04 in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, 1.05 in the Rostov Region, 1.06 in the Samara Region, and 1.07 in the Voronezh and Irkutsk Regions, the latest figures indicate.

The coronavirus spread rate declined to 1.11 in the Krasnoyarsk Region and to 1.25 in the Sverdlovsk Region in the past day. This rate declined considerably in these two regions compared to the previous weeks, the estimates suggest.

The coronavirus spread rate shows the number of people one patient can infect before being isolated. Along with other criteria, it was used to define the regions’ readiness for a step-by-step removal of restrictions introduced last spring to combat the pandemic. Now this rate is used, in particular, to assess a region’s readiness to hold mass events.
