According to German Shipulin, the main fears and main efforts are focused on the Indian strain of the coronavirus

MOSCOW, June 30. /TASS/. Thai and Peruvian strains of the coronavirus have been exposed in Russia, and the scientists are now studying their features and properties, the deputy CEO of the Russian Federal Biomedical Agency for research and production, German Shipulin, said on Wednesday.

"We have a collection, practically all variants that have been described so far: South African, Brazilian and Peruvian. Yesterday we discovered the Thai strain. It is the first such case in Russia. Currently we are describing its properties," Shipulin said in a TV interview.

Shipulin stressed that the main fears and main efforts were focused on the Indian strain of the coronavirus. "The Peruvian, Thai and other strains are of unclear significance at this point. We should keep an eye on them, their frequency in the country, and, naturally, the emergence of new mutations," he concluded.

To date, 5,514,599 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Russia, with 5,000,393 patients having recovered from the disease. Russia’s latest data indicates 135,214 fatalities nationwide. The Russian government set up an Internet hotline to keep the public updated on the coronavirus situation.
