MOSCOW, June 24./TASS/. Restrictions imposed in the Russian regions over coronavirus are an adequate reaction to the developments, Russia’s chief sanitary doctor Anna Popova told Rossiya-24 television on Thursday.

"Nobody is going to impose restrictions on purpose, this is absolutely true. It is the reaction to the developing situation. So, the measures taken in the regions these days are always adequate. We control this," said Popova, who is head of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing.

"Today all variants of the virus that are known to us and to the scientists in other countries are spread the same way - they are airborne. Therefore, the measures that have been developed by the whole world are of vital importance," she stressed.

She also noted that the introduction of new restrictions depends on every individual, risks are minimal if precautions are taken.

According to the national anti-coronavirus crisis center, a total of 5,388,695 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Russia so far, with 4,915,615 patients having recovered from the disease. Russia’s latest data indicates 131,463 fatalities nationwide. The Russian government set up an Internet hotline to keep the public updated on the coronavirus situation.
