EAEU needs to develop common approach to carbon duties — Russian Deputy PM

The climatic agenda also contains serious challenges for EAEU economies, Alexei Overchuk pointed

MOSCOW, June 23. /TASS/. Member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) should design a new economic policy in respect of EU measures limiting the use of hydrocarbon energy sources, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk said on Wednesday when speaking in the Federation Council.

"Developed countries decided to abandon not merely hydrocarbon energy sources and internal combustion engines but also goods with a significant carbon footprint generated in their production. New restrictive measures will affect key items of the Russian export, and this will lead to the need of the large-scale economic restructuring. EAEU faces development and approval of the common economic policy in this sphere and use the collective negotiating resources for interaction with such largest economies as the EU, the US, and China," the official said.

The climatic agenda also contains serious challenges for EAEU economies, Overchuk added.
