Patient with 100% lung damage from COVID-19 saved by doctors in Moscow Region
Hospitalized with severe difficulty breathing, she was immediately put on a noninvasive ventilator and had a two-week stay in the ICU
MOSCOW, February 19. /TASS/. The physicians of a hospital in the town of Vidnoye outside Moscow have saved a desperately ill patient with pneumonia, who tested positive for coronavirus, the press service of the Moscow Region’s health ministry said on Friday.
"The doctors have saved a female patient with 100% lung damage in the Moscow Region. The 49-year-old patient with pneumonia and a positive COVID-19 test was admitted to the Vidnoye district hospital in critical condition. The fact that she is overweight and diabetic aggravated the disease," the press service said.
The press service cited Alexander Pliev, head of the hospital’s anesthesiology and intensive care unit, as saying that after she had been hospitalized with severe difficulty breathing, she was immediately put on a noninvasive ventilator and had a two-week stay in the ICU.
"After that, her condition considerably improved and the doctors opted for weaning her off the machine. A long recovery process started, as the woman was learning to breathe, eat and walk again, returning to her usual life. Three weeks later, a scan showed that her lungs had significantly recovered," Pliev added.
The press service added that she had been already discharged from hospital.
