TASS, February 3. Volunteers of the Green Arctic eco-social organization will continue the cleanup on the uninhibited Vilkitsky Island on July 15. It will be the final expedition to the island, the organization posted on the VKontakte network.
"The fifth (final) ecology expedition to the Vilkitsky Island. The term is July 15 - August 15. The task: to clean the island, assist in sorting and uploading of scrap metal, assistance to scientists in collecting samples," Green Arctic said.
The organization’s ten volunteers would participate in the expedition: men aged between 20 and 45 years, who had participated in Green Arctic’s earlier projects.
For the current year, 2021, Green Arctic plans expeditions to villages Salemal and Seyakha. There, the organization’s volunteers will collect the waste, will survey the locals and offer lectures and master classes in the ecology and urban development. These expeditions will feature volunteers - men and women aged between 18 and 45.
The Vilkitsky Island is located in the western part of the Kara Sea, between Ob and Yenisey Bays - in the Yamalo-Nenets Region. The island is about 9km wide and 18km long.
The Green Arctic organization was founded in 2014. Its biggest volunteer cleanup projects were on the White and Vilkitsky Islands.
