Almost 270 people brought to responsibility for participation in January 23 Moscow rallies

110 of them were put under administrative arrest by the court

MOSCOW, January 28. /TASS/. Moscow police has brought almost 270 people to administrative responsibility for participation in January 23 unauthorized rallies in Moscow, 110 of them have been arrested, Moscow Police Department told TASS Thursday.

"The law enforcement agencies have currently brought 267 people to administrative responsibility, 110 of them were put under administrative arrest by the court," the press department said.

The police called on citizens not to succumb to provocations, not to participate in unauthorized public events and comply with all legitimate demands of the police. Besides, the Moscow Police Department underscored that people are being urged to participate in rallies next to the administrative buildings and emergency services offices, which is directly prohibited by the law on rallies and demonstrations.

The unauthorized rallies in support of blogger Alexey Navalny took place in Moscow and other major cities on January 23. The police and the Prosecutor’s Office warned in advance that participation in unauthorized events constitutes administrative offence. According to the police, the Moscow rally gathered some 4,000 people. About 40 participants and the same number of police officers were injured during clashes.
