MOSCOW, January 22. /TASS/. People should be tested for COVID-19 antibodies before receiving the vaccine to avoid antigenic overload given they have survived the infection without displaying any symptoms, Alexander Gorelov, the deputy director for science of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology at the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing, said Friday.
"In fact, it is a mandatory test [for antibodies], since we know that coronavirus could be asymptomatic. Were you to get coronavirus and to survive it showing no symptoms when your immune system responded properly, why would you need to boost your immunity? Yes, the vaccination will not be out of place, but at the same time, the answer about your [immune] response to this infection has already become obvious," he said in a televised interview with the Doctor channel.
Gorelov indicated that pre-testing could help prevent antigenic overload.
