More coronavirus infections documented in Russian rural areas, top sanitary doctor says
Russia’s latest data indicates 66,623 fatalities nationwide
MOSCOW, January 19. /TASS/. Increasingly more coronavirus infections have been registered not in major Russian cities but in rural populated localities. Preventive monitoring will be boosted there, Head of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing Anna Popova reported on Tuesday.
"Within the framework of evaluation of epidemic process we see increasingly more infections not in central cities, regions, but in rural populated localities, it is precisely there that we currently direct our efforts to control all means of prevention, availability of individual protective gear in order to minimize transmission routes and risks of spread in small populated localities where such a situation is currently unfolding," she said at a session of the presidium of the state coordination council to control the coronavirus incidence in the Russian Federation.
According to the latest global statistics, more than 95.5 mln people have been infected worldwide and over 2 mln deaths have been reported. To date, 3,612,800 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Russia, with 3,002,026 patients having recovered from the disease. Russia’s latest data indicates 66,623 fatalities nationwide. Earlier, the Russian government set up an Internet hotline to keep the public updated on the coronavirus situation.
