Coronavirus situation stabilizing in 72 Russian regions, says sanitary watchdog

The chief of Russia’s sanitary watchdog said that 13 Russian regions are demonstrating increasing incidence of coronavirus cases

MOSCOW, January 18. /TASS/. The coronavirus situation is stabilizing in 72 Russian regions, with morbidity rates going down, Anna Popova, chief of Russia’s sanitary watchdog, said on Monday.

"As of today, we observe the stage of stabilization and decreasing incidence rates in 72 Russian regions," she said, adding the overall coronavirus situation in the country is still quite serious.

"The daily tally of more than 20,000 cases is a rather high level," she said. In her words, 13 Russian regions are demonstrating increasing incidence of coronavirus cases.

To date, 3,591,066 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Russia, with 2,978,764 patients having recovered from the disease. Russia’s latest data indicates 66,037 fatalities nationwide. Earlier, the Russian government set up an Internet hotline to keep the public updated on the coronavirus situation.
