Russians buy twice as many goods on New Year holidays than in 2020, says online retail

MOSCOW, January 15. / TASS /. Russians continued to give gifts on New Years 2021, doubling the number of online purchases year on year, according to the data provided by the online sites surveyed by TASS. on Friday.

"From January 1 to January 10, 2021, Wildberries buyers purchased 2.5 times more goods than in the same period last year," Wildberries said told TASS. The Russians most actively purchased beauty products on the site (sales growth in single items year-on-year - 3 times), clothing (2 times), food (4 times), underwear (2 times), home improvement products (3 times), smartphones and accessories for them (3 times), toys (2 times), accessories (2 times), books (3 times), as well as dishes and kitchen utensils (3 times). Due to a significant cold snap in early January, the demand for warm clothes and shoes increased: for example, thermo sets were purchased 127% more often, and thermal socks - by 205%. For outdoor activities, Russians bought cross-country skis (+ 268%), sledges (+ 372%), ice cakes (+ 720%) and cheesecakes (+ 153%).

In addition, Russians spent money set aside for New Year's travels on gifts and home holidays. During the New Year holidays, Ozon users, as well as buyers of other sites, continued to buy gifts, planning visits, the online site notes, as evidenced by a twofold increase in sales of packaging paper. This is also confirmed by the data of Wildberries: sales of gift sweets increased by 197%, gift sets of cosmetics - by 242%. At Ozon, sales of toys during the New Year holidays increased 2.5 times year-on-year, and sweet sets - 2 times. On Ozon, the most popular purchases among Russians during the holidays were electronics and small household appliances, sales of which increased in kind by 159% and 129%, respectively.

This New Year's, compared to last year, Lamoda shoppers bought 23% more products and spent 26% more on purchases. The greatest growth in demand fell on toys, during these holidays toys were bought almost 8 times more actively. Shopping expenses in the Beauty category were up 85% year-on-year. Spending on household goods also increased (+ 48%), with double bed linen and pillows in greatest demand. At the beginning of 2021, the demand for children's clothing (+ 118%) and accessories for children (+ 71%) increased. "During the New Year holidays, women were more actively involved in updating their wardrobe than men: sales of women's clothing were 3.5 times more than men's," Lamoda online vendor told TASS.
