MOSCOW, October 20. /TASS/. Russia recorded 16,319 new coronavirus cases in the past day, the highest number since the beginning of the pandemic, the anti-coronavirus crisis center said on Tuesday. The case tally has reached 1,431,635.

The coronavirus growth rate is 1.2%.

The rate is the lowest in the Krasnodar region and Chechnya (0.2%), and in the Tatarstan, Chuvash and Moscow regions (0.5%).

Moscow recorded 4,999 daily cases in the past 24 hours. As many as 695 cases were confirmed in St. Petersburg, the highest number so far. The Nizhny Novgorod region also reported a record high number of new cases (366), as well as the Altai region (305), the Yamalo-Nenets autonomous region (288) and several other regions of the country.

There are currently 321,392 active coronavirus cases in Russia.
