Radio Mayak invites Russians to gather on balconies each day to applaud frontline medics
The station suggests that every day at 20:00 local time you open the window or get to the balcony to support the medics of the country with applauds
MOSCOW, April 6./TASS/. Russia’s Radio Mayak invites Russian citizens across the country to gather on their balconies at 20:00 every day to applaud the medics working on the frontline amid the coronavirus pandemic.
"The aim of the flash mob is to express gratitude to the medical staff saving people’s lives," the press service of the radio station told TASS. "Mayak suggests that every day at 20:00 local time you open the window or get to the balcony to support the medics of the country with applauds," it said.
The radio station has also launched audios with an appeal to take part in the action. "Our lives depend on you now. Doctors. Hospital Nurses. All those who remain loyal to their Physicians’ Oath and exercise their medical duty honestly and indiscriminately. You must know that we are profoundly grateful to you. At 8pm sharp, we will open our windows, get to our balconies and you will hear our applauds. Today and every day," the message said.
As of April 6, a total of 6,343 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Russia. As many as 406 patients have recovered. According to data as of 10:30 Moscow time, the number of fatalities has climbed to 47. Two more deaths were reported from St. Petersburg and the Irkutsk Region, however these figures have yet to be confirmed by the federal authorities. Moscow accounts for the majority of cases (4,484). The Russian government set up an Internet hotline to keep the public informed about the coronavirus situation.
