Five coronavirus patients die in Moscow Region over past day

So far, a total of 6,343 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Russia

MOSCOW, April 6. /TASS/. Five patients with the confirmed coronavirus infection have died in the Moscow Region over the past twenty-four hours, the regional coronavirus task force reported on Monday.

"Over the past twenty-four hours, five patients with the confirmed coronavirus infection have died. Overall, eight people have died," the task force reported.

Over the past twenty-four hours, 82 new coronavirus cases have been registered in the Moscow Region. The total number of patients infected with the novel coronavirus in the region has climbed to 387, the task force informed.

In late December 2019, Chinese officials notified the World Health Organization (WHO) about the outbreak of a previously unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, in central China. Since then, cases of the novel coronavirus - named COVID-19 by the WHO - have been reported in every corner of the globe, including Russia.

On March 11, 2020, the WHO declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic. To date, approximately 1,300,000 people have been infected worldwide and roughly 70,000 deaths have been reported. That said, over 265,000 individuals have recovered from the illness across the globe.

So far, a total of 6,343 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Russia, with 406 patients having recovered from the virus. The country’s latest data indicates 47 fatalities nationwide. Earlier, the Russian government set up an Internet hotline to keep the public updated on the coronavirus situation.
