Coronavirus cases in Russia rise to over 1,000 in past 24 hours

A third patient has died of the coronavirus in Moscow

MOSCOW, March 27. /TASS/. The number of people infected with the coronavirus in Russia has grown by 196 to 1,036 cases over the past twenty-four hours, the coronavirus monitoring center reported on Friday.

"As of today, Russia has registered 1,036 cases of the coronavirus infection by the progressive total method in 58 regions. Seven people have been released from hospitals after their recovery in the past twenty-four hours. Over the entire period, 45 people have been discharged from hospitals," the coronavirus monitoring center said.

Three people have been released from the hospital in Moscow, two in the Kirov Region, one person in the Republic of Tatarstan and one person in the Moscow Region over the past twenty-four hours, according to the data of the coronavirus monitoring center.

A third patient has died of the coronavirus in Moscow, the center said.

The 196 new coronavirus cases in Russia have been registered in the country’s 16 regions: 157 in Moscow, 12 in the Republic of Crimea, 8 in the Moscow Region, 3 in the Volgograd Region, 2 in the Chechen Republic, 2 in the Republic of Mordovia, 2 in the Udmurt Republic, 2 in the Samara Region, 1 in the Ivanovo Region, 1 in the Oryol Region, 1 in the Tula Region, 1 in the Yaroslavl Region, 1 in the Republic of Dagestan, 1 in the Rostov Region, 1 in the Republic of Tatarstan and 1 in the Kirov Region, the coronavirus monitoring center reported.

COVID-19 Global Spread

On December 31, 2019, the Chinese authorities reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) about an outbreak of pneumonia of unknown etiology in Wuhan, an economic and industrial megalopolis with a population of 11 million.

The virus was identified on January 7 as 2019-nCoV. The World Health Organization declared in January that the new coronavirus outbreak was a public health emergency of international concern, characterizing it as an epidemic with multiple locations.

On February 11, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that the organization gave the novel coronavirus an official name of COVID-19. On March 11, the World Health Organization officially stated that the continuously spreading novel coronavirus was a global pandemic.

As of today, 199 countries and territories reported confirmed coronavirus cases. According to the latest reports, over 537,300 cases of patients infected with the novel coronavirus have been confirmed worldwide. The virus’ death toll has reached over 24,100.
