Hainan hospitals launch online platform to tackle coronavirus outbreak

The platform's launch is aimed mainly at rebutting coronavirus hoax, the Hainan Daily reports

HAIKOU, February 15. /TASS/. Sixteen Hainan hospitals launched an online medical service aimed to inform the residents about coronavirus epidemic, the Hainan Daily newspaper reported.

According to the newspaper, the project's aim is to carry out diagnostics by using remote methods allowing patients to minimize the time spent outside their apartment and in high-risk areas. One of the project's main features is primarily the use of artificial intelligence technologies and big data, which will significantly accelerate the doctors' work.

The  platform will be available to patients 24/7 and, in addition to diagnostics, it is designed to provide operational information on the specifics and measures of protection against coronavirus. In addition, data on the situation in the field of combating pneumonia on the island will be posted there in real time, indicating residential compounds and places where the infected were first detected. One of the platform's important features is quashing the rumors regarding the virus outbreak.

According to provincial authorities, the new online medical platform will also provide the services of a family doctor and psychologist. It is assumed that due to the service, everyone living in the Hainan province will be able to get detailed  information necessary to ensure maximum personal and family security, and thereby significantly reduce the risk of an increase in the number of the infected in the region.

According to official statistics, the number of people infected with coronavirus on the island amounts to 162, 38 residents have recovered. The situation is gradually getting back to normal: over the past day only a few new cases of infection were detected in two of the 15 main cities and counties of the province. Moreover, in the city of Wuzhishan and the county of Tunchen in the central part of the region there were no patients who checked in since the very beginning of the outbreak of the virus in China. Due to timely measures, local authorities are quite successfully tackling the spread of pneumonia.
