MOSCOW, April 28. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, Orthodox Christians and all Russian citizens on Easter, the Kremlin press service said on Sunday.
"For centuries this old Christian holiday fills people’s hearts with joy and hope, faith in the triumph of life and love. It symbolizes continuity between times and spiritual traditions, which serve the unity of our people," the president said in his address.
The Russian leader emphasized that the Russian Orthodox Church and other Christian denominations play a great role in preserving this rich historic and cultural heritage of Russia and sincerely take care about strengthening family values and educating the growing generation. "This multi-faceted and truly ascetic work deserves the highest recognition," the president noted.
In his congratulation for Patriarch Kirill, Putin highlighted that the high mission and devoted pastoral service helped the head of Russian Orthodox Church earn indisputable authority among the country’s citizens.
"They respect you as a wise spiritual mentor, who consistently advocates lasting values of Orthodoxy. They appreciate your great ascetic work, huge personal contribution to preserving our centuries-old historic, cultural and spiritual traditions," Putin said.
The president stressed that the Russian Orthodox Church is actively participating in the life of the country and the society, taking care about educating young people, strengthening the institution of the family, protecting motherhood and childhood, and is doing a lot to maintain peace and harmony in Russia.
