MAGAS, April 20. /TASS/. More than 50 children of Russian nationals have been brought back to Russia from Iraq and Syria since December 2018, Russian children’s rights ombudswoman Anna Kuznetsova said on Saturday.

"At the instruction from the president, comprehensive work has been established with all relevant agencies. Under this program, more than 50 children have been brought back to the homeland, in several stages. Now they are going to school. Medics are helping. We are keeping a close eye on their situation," she said when asked by TASS about efforts to bring back children of Russian nationals from Iraq and Syria.

According to Kuznetsova, the key task of the country’s authorities now is return from Iraq children of Russian nationals who were born outside Russia.

On December 30, 2018, thirty children who had been kept in Iraqi prisons were taken to Russia by a special flight. They were accompanied by Russian children’s rights ombudswoman Anna Kuznetsova.

Her press service said earlier that the special commission tasked to help bring back Russian children from combat areas had data about 699 Russian minors who had been taken to the Middle East by their parents.
