Ingushetia protests require attention, says Kremlin spokesman
When asked whether the Kremlin believed the protests and the March 26 shooting incident at the Nazran mayor’s office are connected, Dmitri Peskov said "there is no reason to draw such conclusions"
MOSCOW, March 29. /TASS/. Protest activities in the North Caucasus region of Ingushetia require attention, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, adding that the Kremlin was keeping an eye on the situation.
"We are keeping an eye on the situation, receiving reports about what is going on there," he noted. According to Peskov, the situation in the region, "certainly requires attention."
When asked whether the Kremlin believed there was a link between the protests and the March 26 shooting incident at the Nazran mayor’s office, Peskov said "there is no reason to draw such conclusions."
"You are referring to a single incident that law enforcement agencies are handling, it is not a matter the Kremlin should address," he added.
The mayor of Ingushetia’s capital of Nazran, Magomed Bekmurziyev, told TASS earlier that an incident involving non-lethal weapons had occurred in his office. A regional emergency source said three people had been slightly injured. According to Bekmurziyev, Ingushetia’s Security Council and the regional Interior Ministry are conducting a probe into the incident.
