The poll shows that in Russian society there isn’t a unified position on whether gender equality is possible in various spheres of life
MOSCOW, March 20. /TASS/. More than half of Russia’s citizens believe it is vital to strive for equal rights (62%) and responsibilities (59%) between men and women, according to the results of a poll by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center published on Wednesday.
The survey says "62% of Russians believe it is necessary to pursue full gender equality, while 59% of the respondents say that the same should be true for equality of responsibilities," the research center reports.
At the same time, the poll shows that in Russian society there isn’t a unified position on whether gender equality is possible in various spheres of life. Almost half of the respondents (42%) believe that gender equality is possible in only specific spheres, while 13% rejected this notion.
According to the Russian Public Opinion Research Center data, 31% of Russians support the feminist movement, which strives for equality of political, economic, social and personal rights for the sexes, while 22% responded that they "categorically oppose" it.
