Long-awaited Russian premiere of Presgurvic’s Romeo and Juliet due on March 13

Eleven performances will be put on in Moscow

MOSCOW, March 5./TASS/. The greatly-anticipated Russian premiere of Gerard Presgurvic’s musical Romeo and Juliet in French subtitled in Russian will take place at Moscow’s State Kremlin Palace on March 13. The muscial will run longer than planned, with three more performances added to the schedule, the press service of the tour organizer said on Tuesday.

"The musical has generated a lot of buzz, and at the request of the viewers, 11 performances will be put on in Moscow instead of the initially scheduled eight," the report said.

The press service said the performances would take place between March 13 and 19, with matinees on March 15-18. The audience will be entitled to a second version of the 2010 play with six new items added to the program. As many as 70 people perform in the musical, and eight vans will travel to the capital city of Russia with pieces of scenery and costumes. Setting the stage will take four days.

Presgurvic gave up on Shakespeare’s text, telling the story in his own words while maintaining the storyline. He composed the first melody back in 1998, concentrating on the libretto and music in the following two years.

Seven million people have already watched the musical across the globe. A total of 14 million CDs and DVDs have been sold. The musical was translated into Russian, French, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, English, German, Korean, Japanese, Kazakh and Hungarian, as well as into Hebrew.
