MOSCOW, January 25. /TASS/. More than 5,000 foreign citizens who came to Russia to the World Cup with Fan IDs are staying in the country illegally, Deputy Head of the Migration Department of the Russian Interior Ministry Andrei Kayushkin told journalists.
"During the 2018 World Cup, 650,000 foreign citizens came to Russia with Fan ID cards. They were mainly law-abiding and left the country in time. By December 31 last year, there were a little more than 12,000 citizens who stayed there and did not leave the country, but the FSB’s operation made it possible to decrease this figure to 5,500. We are carrying out events aimed at their detection, and I hope that all of them will have been expelled by March 30," he said.
