TASS holds photo exhibition within St. Petersburg international cultural forum

The display is devoted to the outstanding cinema personalities

ST. PETERSBURG, November 15. /TASS/. The Russian news agency TASS is holding a photo exhibition "Italian Cinema through the Lens of TASS" within the framework of the seventh St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum. The archived photos depict famous cinema personalities, such as Ornella Muti, Federico Fellini, Grigory Chukhray and Fyodor Bondarchuk.

"This exhibition holds a special significance for the cultural forum. We are opening a new page of photojournalism. It is a very special art. I think it experiences a new cycle of its development today," Russian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets stated during the opening ceremony.

TASS Director General Sergei Mikhailov reminded that the agency has been providing news in pictures for 90 years. In recent years, the agency has undertaken colossal work on digitizing its photo archives, which include unique pictures of global cinema personalities.

"Some unique photos that have gained global fame are present here. Look at how Nikita Mikhalkov shows off his muscles to Marcello Mastroianni, or how Elizabeth Taylor and Gina Lollobrigida wore the same dress to the reception at the State Kremlin Palace. This photograph got Yves Saint Laurent, who was working for Dior back then, in big trouble," Mikhailov said.

Italian Ambassador to Russia Pasquale Terracciano noted that Italy is very pleased to see famous Italian actors and directors presented at the exhibition.

Among the TASS reporters who took the photographs for the historic exhibition are Yuri Belinsky, Alexander Kositsyn, Igor Zotin, Valentin Mastyukov, Alexander Konkov, Valery Gende Rote, and Valery Khristoforov. The exhibition will be held at the Hermitage Museum until November 17.
