Google faces fine for providing links to websites banned in Russia

In line with the federal law, search engines are to exclude links to banned websites from their search results.

MOSCOW, October 26. /TASS/. The Google search engine will have to pay about $10,000 for its failure to comply with Russia’s state database of banned websites, the press service of the Russian telecoms watchdog Roskomnadzor said.

"While fulfilling its duties, Roskomnadzor has recorded the fact of Google’s non-compliance with its duty to connect to the federal state information system. Roskomnadzor will take measures in line with the Code of the Russian Federation on Administrative Offenses," Roskomnadzor said, adding that the fine will stand at between 500,000 and 700,000 rubles (about $7,600-$10,700 at the current exchange rate).

Roskomnadzor said that in line with the federal law, search engines are to exclude links to banned websites from their search results.

Earlier, Roskomnadzor notified Google that it was to connect to the federal database of banned websites within 30 days.
