Swimmers from the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk have performed an unprecedented 373.1 kilometer relay swim along the Yenisei River to celebrate Russian Flag Day

KRASNOYARSK, August 22. /TASS/. Swimmers from the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk have performed an unprecedented 373.1 kilometer relay swim along the Yenisei River to celebrate Russian Flag Day, a TASS correspondent reported.

The relay kicked off in the Khakasia Region on August 15 and concluded in the Shumikha Bay near the city of Krasnoyarsk. Swimmers alternated every 30 minutes from 6:00 to 22:00 during the seven-day swim. The water temperature was about 12-18 degrees Celsius (53-64 degrees Fahrenheit).

"A decision has been made to document this record seven-day open water swim," Russian Book of Records expert Yulia Pronina said at a ceremony welcoming the athletes.

There were eight participants in the relay, including cold-water swimming champions and record holders.

The event particularly involved cold water swimming world champion, participant in a swim across the Bering Strait Nikolai Petshak, Krasnoyarsk Regional Swimming Federation Vice President Dmitry Pokhabov, cold water swimming world champion Darya Isichenko, participant in the Sydney and Athens Olympic Games, five-time cold water swimming world champion Alexei Kovrigin.
