Russian cartoon hit rakes in over $1 mln at overseas box offices
In August, it will come out in South Korea, and after that, in the Middle East and former Yugoslavia states
MOSCOW, July 23. /TASS/. The box office take of the Russian cartoon "The Fixies" has exceeded $1 mln abroad, the project’s press service informed on Monday.
"Upon the conclusion of the film’s screening in Latin America, the Russian cartoon "The Fixies: Top Secret" earned more than $1 mln abroad. In Latin America in particular, the cartoon pulled in $572,000, that is, more than half of its international box office take," the press service stated. They added that the film was shown in five Latin American countries: Mexico, Peru, Chile, Bolivia and Ecuador.
Head of the international sales department of the cartoon’s official distributor "Central Partnership" Katerina Pshenitsyna noted that in Mexico, the film remained in cinemas for two months and added that in September, screenings of its sequel will start in Toronto.
Besides Latin America, the cartoon was shown in Turkey, the Baltics, and Bulgaria. In August, it will come out in South Korea, and after that, in the Middle East and former Yugoslavia states.
The feature animation film "The Fixies: Top Secret" was created by a Russian animation company called "Aeroplane Productions" in tandem with the Blitz Films company with support from the Russian Cinema Foundation. In Russia, it hit cinema screens in October 2017, and earned 452 mln rubles (about $7.1 mln) at the box office, drawing over 2.2 mln viewers.
The feature film serves as a sequel for a cartoon series called "The Fixies", which was shown in 80 countries all over the world. Currently, Aeroplane Productions are working on a feature-length sequel to the first movie, and finishing production of the TV show’s third season, with the aim of distributing it worldwide.
