Moscow police detain taxi driver suspected of robbing BBC reporter
The police are taking measures to detain the suspect's accomplice
MOSCOW, July 7. /TASS/. Moscow police officers have detained a man suspected of robbing a BBC reporter, Spokeswoman for the Russian Interior Ministry Irina Volk said on Saturday.
"As a result of the search operation, a suspect in the robbery of a British national has been detained. Yesterday, the British national reported to the police that he had been robbed in a taxi," Volk said. "As a result of the search operation, officers of the criminal police found the car which the man had taken and one of the suspects had been detained. He is now being questioned."
The detectives are taking measures to locate and detain his accomplice.
The Moscow City police reported earlier that a British national turned for medical care on July 6. According to the man, at about 3:30 am on Friday he caught a taxi where unknown people offered him a coffee. He lost consciousness after drinking the coffee and when coming round found out his belongings had been stolen. A criminal case was laid.
According to a source in the police, the Briton was a BBC reporter who had travelled to Russia to cover the FIFA World Cup.
