MOSCOW, July 4. /TASS/. Moscow’s Tushinsky court on Wednesday slapped a British football fan with a 3,000-ruble ($47) fine for scribbling ‘England’ on the statue of renowned Soviet football legend Fyodor Cherenkov, the court’s press service said. "Rufus Edward Hall was present at the court hearing, admitted his guilt and apologized to Russia," the court spokesperson said.
The 20-year old fan was hauled in after Tuesday night's match at Moscow’s Spartak Arena when England defeated Colombia as a result of a 4-3 penalty shootout.
Fyodor Cherenkov played for Spartak Moscow in 1977-90 and 1991-94. He is widely seen as the team's best player ever.
